What are the admission requirements at Umm Al-Qura University?
Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah offers 132 bachelor programmes and tracks in 26 colleges and institutes, in Makkah and in Al-Qunfudhah, Al-Lith, Al-Jumum and Adham, from medicine, pharmacy, engineering and computing to Sharia, judicial studies and design. You apply only through the unified admission portal, and the weighted score is 40% secondary grade, 30% Qudrat and 30% Tahsili. Here are all the majors by college as the university degree catalogue lists them, the admission rules as the university writes them, and the credit hours of the main programmes.
UQU publishes the following admission rules3, which we carry over as the official page states them:
- There is no manual application or admission; every programme is offered only through the unified admission portal, which you sign in to with Nafath.
- If seats open up in some majors, upgrades happen automatically without you visiting the university.
- Your secondary certificate must be no more than five years old, and no more than two years old for the medical majors.
- General Aptitude (Qudrat) and Achievement (Tahsili) scores are valid for five years.
- The weighted score for scientific, business and theoretical majors, for men and women: 40% secondary grade, 30% Qudrat, 30% Tahsili.
- There is no first-come priority; admission is by automatic ranking against the capacity of each major.
- The medical colleges require at least 60% in the English proficiency test, and the English major at least 50%.
- Pick every preference shown in your list to raise your chance of admission; you can reorder them during the application stage.
- There is admission for applicants over 25 or past the secondary certificate age limit, according to the admission period announcement.
What do you study in each UQU programme?
From each programme page on the UQU site we carried over the description, the length, the way it is taught and the careers the university lists:
Medicine and Surgery: Medicine and surgery is the longest programme at the university: 273 credit hours, starting with the 36-hour first year of the medical college. The same programme is also offered at the College of Medicine in Al-Qunfudhah. You need a secondary certificate no more than two years old and at least 60% in the English proficiency test.2

Dentistry and Oral Surgery: Dentistry and oral surgery is 182 credit hours, starting with a 32-hour first year at the dental college.4
Doctor of Pharmacy: Doctor of Pharmacy is the single programme at the College of Pharmacy, at 208 credit hours.5
Doctor of Physical Therapy: Applied medical sciences has two physical therapy routes: the Doctor of Physical Therapy at 180 hours, and physical therapy at 144 hours. The college also teaches emergency medical services, respiratory care, clinical nutrition and laboratory medicine.6
Computer and Network Engineering: The College of Computing offers seven programmes, the longest being computer and network engineering at 158 hours, alongside artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity and human-computer interaction.7
Civil Engineering: Engineering programmes in Makkah are 168 credit hours and start with the 36-hour first year of the engineering college, after which you choose civil, electrical with its two tracks, mechanical with its two tracks, mechatronics or architecture.8
Judicial Studies: Judicial studies is 175 credit hours and regulations (law) 150 hours; they are the two programmes of the college.9
Does Umm Al-Qura University teach outside Makkah?
Yes. Al-Qunfudhah has a medical college, an engineering and computing college and a university college; Al-Lith has an engineering and computing college, a health sciences college and a university college; Al-Jumum and Adham each have a university college. The university colleges teach programmes such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, Arabic, English, media and social work, so you can study close to home.10
Which tracks sit inside the business and economics programmes?
Business administration has two tracks: management and human resource management. Economics has two: Islamic economics and business economics. Tourism and hospitality has two: tourism and events management, and hotel management. Alongside them sit accounting, marketing, finance and investment, and risk management and insurance.11
Which Islamic studies programmes does Umm Al-Qura University offer?
Sharia is taught at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies over 175 hours. The College of Dawah and Fundamentals of Religion has four programmes of 140 hours each: dawah and Islamic culture, Islamic creed, Quranic readings, and Quran and Sunnah.12

UQU pays a monthly stipend that depends on the type of major14: SR 1,000 a month (monthly stipend, scientific colleges) and SR 850 a month (monthly stipend, theoretical colleges).

Which fee mistakes do students make at Umm Al-Qura University?
- Missing this rule: The monthly stipend needs a regular student with a timetable and no academic warning, and runs for the approved plan's duration: eight semesters in the theoretical colleges, ten in the scientific colleges and twelve in the health colleges.14
- Missing this rule: It is deposited on the 27th of every Gregorian month, and a student registered in fewer than 12 hours still gets it if the conditions hold.14
- Missing this rule: It stops at the end of the regular duration and whenever the status is apologised, deferred, dropped out or academically dismissed; after a GPA warning it resumes once the warning is lifted, with no back pay for the months of the warning.14
- Missing this rule: The excellence reward is SAR 1,000, once a year within the regular duration, for bachelor students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or more across all semesters of the year; master's students are paid for four years and doctoral students for five, provided they are not faculty or employees.14
- Missing this rule: A student with a moderate disability gets a SAR 1,500 monthly allowance on top of the stipend, and a blind or severely disabled student a grade-five salary, as determined by the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Centre; the bank account must be in the student's own name.14
