Picture a student at Shaqra who opens registration on day one and finds the system will let him take a large number of hours, so he fills the timetable to the edge. Six weeks on, with a practical course, two reports and a project, he thinks: I should have taken less. Registration never asks whether you can. It only asks whether you may.
What governs Shaqra University course registration?
The Deanship of Admission and Registration publishes a bilingual add and drop form with conditions on credit-hour limits and on dropping courses from lower levels, plus the deanship’s contact details.2 The Academic Calendar page carries an item called “last day to add/drop courses”.1 These two documents are what matter: one says what you can do, the other says when.
The hour limits are left out on purpose, because limits change when the regulation is updated and may differ by your GPA and level. Open the form, read the numbers at their source, and write them in your phone next to the last-day date.
| Question | Where the answer is | Who to ask |
|---|---|---|
| How many hours may I register? | Add/drop form and the study regulation | Your academic advisor |
| When is the last day to add and drop? | Academic Calendar | Deanship of Admission and Registration |
| May I drop a lower-level course? | The form’s rules on lower levels | Your department |
| How do I reach the deanship? | Contact details on the form and deanship page | The deanship or your college’s registration unit |

The table is a search aid. The decision belongs to you and your advisor.
How many credit hours should you register?
This is arithmetic that most timetables ignore. Each credit hour usually needs about two hours of study a week, a rule of thumb many advisors use rather than a line from Shaqra’s regulation. By that rule a load of fourteen hours means roughly twenty-eight hours of study on top of lectures.
- Count your real time
Subtract lectures, work, travel and sleep from the week and see what is left.
- Mark the heavy courses
Labs, projects and any course you failed before need more time than their credit hours suggest.
- Balance heavy and light
Avoid three heavy courses together when you can. Mix them with lighter ones.
- Read the limits in the form
Check that your load sits within them, especially if your GPA is low.
- Set a decision day
Take the last add/drop day from the calendar and decide a week earlier: keep every course or drop one.

The arithmetic above is a practical estimate, not a university rule. Test it with your advisor.
When does add and drop open at Shaqra University?
The university announces it in the Academic Calendar, which has a last day to add and drop courses.1 We found no fixed date on the pages we checked, so read the calendar at the start of the semester. If it is unclear, write to the deanship using the contact details on the form.
Dropping inside the window differs from withdrawing after it. Withdrawal is recorded on your transcript, and each university has its own regulation; King Abdulaziz University, for one, publishes its internal regulations.3 For the difference, read the guide to semester withdrawal.
What if you drop a course you need to graduate?
Count the hours left in your plan before you drop. If the drop will delay graduation, put it in numbers: how many hours you still need, in which semester the course is offered, and whether a summer term exists. Read the summer semester guide to see if it can make up the gap.
If your GPA is below the line, read the guide to academic probation before deciding, and take what fits from raising your GPA. If you are planning to move to another university, check the transfer guide.
What changes if you study at a Shaqra branch?
Shaqra University spans several towns, and the deanship form carries contact details for its branches. If your college is outside the main campus, ask your college’s admission and registration unit where the form is handed in, how it reaches the deanship and how long that takes. Do not assume what a friend at another branch does applies to you.
Time matters here. If a form goes through the college unit and then the deanship, a day or two can separate an accepted request from a missed one. Submit at least three days before the last day in the calendar, and if the route is electronic keep the receipt.
How do you review the decision after dropping?
After dropping, open your schedule and count your new hours, and check they stay at or above the minimum in the form. Then reassign the study time that has just freed up so it does not vanish: add two hours to your hardest remaining course and one hour of weekly review. A student who drops a course and changes no study habits will find the remaining courses as tiring as before.
