By the tiswa editorial team, from the official sources listed at the end of this guide. How we write our guides
It comes back every year with a different programme, and the whole of Riyadh talks about it. The official site, riyadhseason.com1, sorts experiences by type: concerts and music festivals, theatre, boxing and wrestling nights, matches, family games, restaurants, and heritage and arts events. Visit Saudi2 gives the wider picture. The catch is simple. Walk in without a plan and one outing eats a large part of your stipend.
Start with what you want from the night
A specific concert? A play? An evening with the group? Or just a walk and dinner? Answer that, then open the site and see where those events sit. Many experiences are in zones such as Boulevard World, and each shows its own entry price on its booking page. Pick the zone nearest you if money is tight. Pick the bigger one if your friends want to hop between several experiences. The zones are explained in the Riyadh Season guide and the Boulevard guide.
One place for a real ticket
Book through the official links only. Treat any account or link that reaches you in a message as suspect, because fake tickets spread fast around big shows. Before you pay, read the date, time, place and refund policy. Then save the ticket on your phone.
The ride can cost more than the door
Lean on ride-hailing at peak time and the trip home can cost more than the ticket. Compare the metro, buses and driving. Details are in the Riyadh Metro guide, metro student fares and the bus guide. With friends, split one car from the start.
One number for the whole outing
Write a single amount covering ticket, ride and food before you leave. The usual mistake is budgeting for the ticket only, then paying inside-the-zone food prices that beat anywhere else in the city. Eat before or after at a place with a student discount; options are in cheap restaurants in Riyadh. Between events, use the free spots in free places in Riyadh.
Working a shift? Read the contract
Some students take part-time event work. The Labour Law3 sets normal working hours at eight a day or 48 a week, and anything beyond counts as overtime. Do not sign before you have read the pay and the hours, and fit them around your lectures.
It overlaps with exams
Months of the season land on midterms and finals. Put your exam timetable beside the events you want before booking, and take late shows after the last paper, not before. Study plans are in exam season, and weekend routes in a Riyadh weekend plan.
