Coursera financial aid exists for learners who cannot afford the cost of a certificate. If your application is approved, you get access to all of the course content and can complete it to earn the certificate. Many students hear about it but get lost in the steps or cancel their own application by mistake. Here is the full process from Coursera's official help page.

If aid is available, it is listed under "More questions?" next to the FAQs. Some courses also have a preview option that lets you try the course for free before you decide.

How to write a clear application
The application has three parts: your studies, your goals and your finances. Write each one honestly and specifically, because Coursera says the amount of aid may depend on the details in your application. Things that help:
- State your major, your year and your university, and why this exact course supports your studies.
- Tie the course to a clear goal: co-op training, a graduation project, a job in a specific field.
- Describe your financial situation in two clear sentences, without exaggerating.
- Say how you will finish: how many hours a week and over what period.
- Write in simple English and check the spelling before you submit.
Use this template with any AI assistant to organise your thoughts. Fill it with your real details only:
Help me organise a Coursera financial aid application for [course name]. My studies: [major] student in year [number] at a Saudi university. My goal for the course: [goal]. My financial situation: [short, honest description]. My available time: [number] hours a week. Write three short paragraphs in English, one per part, in simple language with no exaggeration. Do not add any information I did not give you, and keep the total between 150 and 250 words.
Read what comes back and rewrite it in your own words. The application has to be about you and reflect your real situation.
Before you apply: pick the right course
Aid does not move between courses, and you only have 180 days to finish. So choose the course carefully before you write the application. Ask yourself: does it support a subject I am studying or a training placement I want? Is the level right for me, beginner or advanced? How many hours a week does it need, and can I give it that time this term? If the course has a free preview, try it first to check the instructor's style suits you. Once you have clear answers, you will find half the application is already written, because those same answers describe your goals and your plan.
After approval or denial
- If approved: you get an email with instructions, so follow them to start. You have 180 days to finish the course, and if you do not, you can submit another application.
- If denied: you get an email explaining why. If there was a problem with the application, fix it and apply again.
- Aid does not move to another course, so pick the right course from the start.
Specializations and professional certificates
If you want a Specialization or a professional certificate with several courses, Coursera does not offer aid for the whole thing. Apply for the first course, and once you finish it, apply for the next. It is a good way to pace yourself one course at a time. Google Career Certificates in particular also have a separate scholarship that covers the subscription, explained in Google Career Certificates.
