## How the tool works

You enter your monthly income and what you spend on each of the four areas. The tool divides each amount by your income to give a percentage, and shows it next to the split suggested in the [student budget guide](https://tiswa.app/en/blog/student-budget/): 50% essentials, 20% savings, 20% fun and personal, 10% study.

The result is percentages only. The point is to see where your income goes, not how many riyals you spent. If you do not know your spending yet, track two weeks from your banking app or phone notes and come back.

## If you live alone

If you pay rent, essentials can reach 70% or more. Tick the living-alone option and the tool compares your essentials with that share, and reminds you to cut fun first and keep some savings share.

1. **Enter your income**: Your monthly stipend, allowance and any other income, as one figure.
2. **Enter your spending**: From your banking app: what went on essentials, fun and study, and what you moved to savings.
3. **Compare**: Each area shows its share and its gap from the suggestion in percentage points.
4. **Change one area**: Start with the biggest gap, usually fun or delivery, and check again next month.

> **Tip**: The easiest place to lower your fun share is subscriptions: most monthly apps have student prices, all in [student discounts](https://tiswa.app/en/deals/).

## Questions

### How should I split my university stipend?

A suggested split: 50% essentials, 20% savings, 20% fun and personal, 10% study. Adjust for your housing and costs, and move the savings share on stipend day.

### How much of my stipend should I save?

Start with a share you can keep up. 20% is a good target for a student living with family. Saving every month matters more than the size.

### Why percentages and not amounts?

A percentage shows where your income goes whatever its size, and makes it easy to compare with the suggested split month after month.

### Does the tool keep my numbers?

There is no sign-up and no account. With JavaScript on, the maths runs entirely in your browser and never leaves it.
