## How your age is worked out

- Gregorian age: the full years from your birth date to today, with the rest in months and days.
- Hijri age: the full Hijri years on the Umm al-Qura calendar. A Hijri year is about 11 days shorter, so your Hijri age is usually higher.
- If you were born on 29 February, your birthday in other years is 28 February.

You can enter your birth date in Hijri if that is what your ID shows; the calculator converts it on the Umm al-Qura calendar.

> **Tip**: Need to convert another date? The [Hijri date converter](https://tiswa.app/en/tools/date-converter/).

## Questions

### How do I work out my age in Hijri years?

Enter your birth date in either calendar and the calculator gives your age in Hijri years on the Umm al-Qura calendar.

### Why is my Hijri age higher?

A Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian one, so roughly every 33 Gregorian years hold 34 Hijri years.

### Does the calculator keep my birth date?

There is no sign-up and no account. With JavaScript on, the maths runs entirely in your browser and never leaves it.
