Nursing terms in Arabic and English come up from your first placement. Supervisors and doctors may speak English on the ward, while charts and reports are written in Arabic or English depending on the hospital. This guide lists 65 terms in five tables, arranged by what you do on shift: assessing the patient, giving medication, controlling infection, working at the bedside, and supporting patient rights and teaching.

A table does not replace your course book or the hospital policy. Use it to recognise words quickly during a shift. When a term names a specific procedure, follow your hospital procedure, and treat the table as a guide to the name and its meaning only.

## How to learn these terms

1. **Start with your first shift**: Write down three terms you hear each day, and use them in conversation with classmates.
2. **Link each term to an action**: Learn the word with the task it names, such as the six rights with the checks you make before each dose.
3. **Practise charting**: Write a short note about an imaginary patient using the terms, then compare it with the format your hospital uses.
4. **Review by recall**: Two days later, rebuild the table from memory and test the terms you missed. [Active recall and spaced repetition](https://tiswa.app/en/blog/active-recall-spaced-repetition/) explains the method.

If you use AI tools to practise these terms or draft study notes, read [AI for nursing students](https://tiswa.app/en/blog/ai-for-nursing-students/) first. Never paste real patient information into a tool, because patient data is confidential, and charting belongs in the approved hospital system only.

To plan the path itself, [the nursing major](https://tiswa.app/en/blog/major-nursing/) explains study years and subjects, and [the medicine major](https://tiswa.app/en/blog/major-medicine/) is useful if you are comparing the two tracks. If prevention and community care interest you, [public health](https://tiswa.app/en/blog/major-public-health/) uses many of the same words.

Nursing students spend long hours in libraries, labs and placements. ## Questions

### Are these terms required in my nursing reports?

No, but they help you follow instructions and talk with the team. The report follows your hospital template and standards, and the table is only a reference for meaning.

### What is the difference between a medical diagnosis and a nursing diagnosis?

A medical diagnosis names the disease. A nursing diagnosis describes how the patient responds to the health problem and what care they need. Both matter, and each completes the other.

### Do the six rights of medication differ between hospitals?

The core idea is the same, but the checks and documentation vary by system. Follow your hospital procedure and ask your preceptor if a step is unclear.

### How do I stop mixing up similar terms?

Group similar terms together and use each one in a sentence about a real situation. Confusion drops when a term is tied to a specific action.

### Do these terms apply in specialist units?

Most of them appear on every ward. Specialist units such as intensive care or neonatal care add their own vocabulary, which you will learn in that unit during placement.

### Can I use an AI tool to understand these terms?

Yes, for general explanations, but check the answer in your course book. Never enter a real patient details into a tool outside the hospital system.
